behind the scenes

Cup Gapping

We recently started developing our first pieces in Los Angeles, and one thing we kept coming back to was a fit issue so many women mention but rarely talk about openly: cup gapping.

As women’s bodies naturally change over time, many bras stop fitting the way they used to. Cups can feel too rigid, straps get tightened to compensate, and support often starts to feel restrictive instead of natural.

We wanted to explore a different approach.

Early Prototype

Right now, we’re working through early sketches, fabrics, fit testing, and construction ideas focused on softer support, lighter structure, and pieces that move more naturally with the body while still feeling beautiful and elevated.

This section documents the process as it unfolds, from concept sketches and fabric sourcing to development meetings and early prototypes in Los Angeles.

Not just the final pieces, but everything happening behind them.

Side Support

One detail we've been exploring in our first collection is side support.

Many bras rely on heavier padding or tighter bands to create shape, but we wanted to see if there was another way. This early prototype incorporates soft mesh side panels that help guide the breast inward while maintaining a lighter, more natural feel.

Small Details

It's a small design element, but those are often the decisions that make the biggest difference in how a bra feels after hours of wear.

As we continue developing Bella Otér's first collection in Los Angeles, we're documenting each step of the process, from early concepts and fit testing to the small details that eventually become the finished pieces.

Kim is currently working on the bra sketches, refining the designs and developing detailed concepts to support the next stage of the product development process.
