What I’ve Been Noticing About Women and Their Bodies
Share
From inside Bella Otér: reflections on body image, lingerie, and self-confidence.
I’ve been noticing something about how women relate to their bodies, especially when they step into a space centered around intimate wear and self-expression.
On Sundays, I share something more personal. Not to sell, but to let you into what I am seeing and learning as I build Bella Otér.
And what people don’t always fully understand is this: Bella Otér was built for every woman. Every age. Every stage of life. Not one version of womanhood. All of it.
Inside our Evanston store, I see this play out every day.
Some women come in open. Curious. Willing to experience how something feels on their body. And something shifts. They soften. They stand differently. They reconnect with themselves.
And then there are women who shut it down immediately. Before anything is even felt. A quick rejection of the body, as if there is nothing there to explore.
That response is not neutral.
It is learned. Reinforced. Passed down.
Especially to younger women and daughters who are watching closely, learning what it means to live in a female body long before anyone explains it to them.
What I keep coming back to is how lingerie and intimate wear sit inside all of this.
Intimate clothing was never meant to be only external. But it has been shaped into something performative. Something to be judged or approved of through someone else’s gaze. And that disconnect shows up immediately in how women respond to themselves.
But when that pattern breaks, even briefly, something changes.
A woman meets herself differently. And that changes how she carries herself long after she leaves.
At Bella Otér, we are not here to reinforce what women already believe about their bodies. We are here to challenge it.
Because this is not just about clothing. It is about self-image, self-confidence, and whether a woman is willing to see herself first.
If you’ve been curious about how you actually feel in your body, we invite you to experience this in person at Bella Otér in Evanston.
You can visit the store or try a Body Reset, a guided experience designed to help you reconnect with your body through texture, fit, and sensation.
